It’s Time… To Winterize Your Home

Just a friendly reminder, as we head into colder weather, there are several maintenance items we would like to suggest to address – use your own handy skills or schedule these with a professional service.

WINTERIZE OUTDOOR HOSE BIBS
Turn off your outdoor water spigots, and drain your outside pipes. Remove garden hoses from spigots and drain excess water. The control valves are inside your house in the mechanical room, close to the main water supply line.

WINTERIZE IRRIGATION SYSTEMS
If your home has a sprinkler system for your lawn, winterizing can help prevent damage from frost levels reaching below your system. There are several methods for draining and shutting down irrigation systems; contact your irrigation company for recommendations and/or to schedule winterization services.

CHANGE AIR FILTERS
For efficient operation, replace your air filters at least every three months during heating season. In some areas, more frequent changing may be necessary. A good rule of thumb is if you cannot see through the filter when held to a light, it needs to be changed.

CHECK SMOKE AND CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTORS
Review the instruction manual for smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in your home. Follow the instruction manual for periodic maintenance such as replacing the light bulbs, replacing the batteries, vacuuming the unit inside and out and cleaning it with a cotton swab.
